Los molinos de martillos se componen de un rotor giratorio
en el que se instalan unos bloques de acero que tienen un orificio en uno de
sus extremos que se denominan martillos
El rotor dispone de varios ejes que se pasan a través de los
orificios del martillo. El eje está en lo que se denomina la cámara de corte
En esta cámara hay instaladas unas placas reforzadas donde el material se
golpea empujado por los martillos
Cuando el rotor gira
los martillos impulsan el material
contra estas placas y lo destroza por impacto. El rotor de estos molinos suele
girar a altas velocidades de entre 400 y 600 r.p.m. lo que produce la fuerza
suficiente para trocear y aplastar el producto consiguiendo la reducción de
tamaño
Debajo del rotor se instala una criba para controlar la
granulometría del producto triturado. El producto no saldrá de la cámara de
trituración hasta que sus partículas no tengan un diámetro inferior al del
orificio de la criba
